What made the experimental republic called The United States of America work? Many of our Founding Fathers believed in God, Country and Family. This attitude remained strong through WW II. It seems to be changing since along with the country’s work ethic and morality.
Political correctness seems to demand God be silenced in this country. If we are politically correct we have a holiday season and not Christmas. The Easter bunny now is just a bunny. What has happened?
This idea of separation of church and state has been distorted to the point of violating our First Amendment rights. Our founding fathers never wanted to take religion out of government. They wanted to take government out of religion to insure that expression of religious freedom was never restricted. We now misinterpret Separation of Church and State to the point of violating our First Amendment rights. How did we get it so screwed up?
There was a time when people took care of their neighbors and their fellow countrymen. They did not look to the government for help. I was raised on a farm. When there was a fire, or a tornado, or a farmer got sick or hurt so he could not work, neighbors, friends and relatives showed up in droves to take care of his crops and livestock. They did not look to the government. How did we get so screwed up?
The traditional family was an essential part of this country’s success. History clearly shows that the decline of the traditional family has not been good for the country and the government has come in to totally support some of these people.
If we take a critical look at the people of this country, many are not as interested in freedom and equal opportunity as they are in what they can get for free. People seem to expect a certain life style without having to earn it. What happened to our work ethic? How did we get so screwed up?
Family values seem to be alive and well in our area of NW Wisconsin. Unfortunately, sometimes to the degree that everything people enjoy here in the US is taken for granted. People ignore the facts of what's happening, how our freedoms are dwindling, because they are totally preoccupied with their own world. Until it affects their world they'll continue to keep their heads in the sand, and when it does? It'll be too late.
ReplyDeleteThis blog introduces an interesting assortment of issues, all related, so good job in that respect. Regarding first amendment rights, I would argue that religion in our democratic society is actively being preserved by our government, which preservation mandates that one religion is not given priority over another. As a christian, I have not experienced any situation where my beliefs have been subdued by the government. Therefore, I don't understand your assertion that we are "so screwed up" with our first amendment rights.
ReplyDeleteOn family, frankly I'm inclined to say that your suggestion that families and neighbors no longer help one another is simply not true. This is a blatant over-exaggeration perhaps intended to further your argument that the government sucks; but I just don't see it. While I agree that certain sectors of the population seem level-set on taking advantage of social programs that are well intended, and that reforms are necessary to ensure that such abuses are minimized, I don't view this issue as widespread as you might suggest.
Regarding your other contributor to the blog post, I am perplexed and amazed that she would be so geocentric to assume that the only right-minded citizens in this country reside in NW Wisconsin, whereas everyone else in the country has their "heads in the sand." Ironic that she refers to others being "totally preoccupied with their own world." Aye Caramba!
