The
United States of America has always had two predominate
political parties. This is good because
a single party is more prone to corruption and does not give the people any
freedom of choice.
There
have always been smaller political parties that did not play any significant
role in shaping the country. The two
dominate parties have changed over the years.
Parties have died and new ones have emerged to take their place. We may see that happening again.
The
first two parties were the Federalist Party and the Republican Party. This is not today’s Republican Party and was
also called the Democratic-Republican or Jeffersonian Republican. The Federalist Party favored a strong central
government and the Republican Party favored a very limited federal
government.
The
next two strong political parties were the Jacksonian Democrats which evolved
into today’s Democratic Party and the Whig Party. The Democrats wanted the President to be the
dominant branch of government, and the Whigs wanted the Congress to be the
dominant branch of government.
The
current Republican Party (GOP or Grand Old Party) came to power prior to the
Civil War because they were against slavery.
The Democratic Party was pro-slavery and the Whig party was divided on
the issue. The Whig Party did not
survive.
Both
the Democratic and Republican parties have survived since the Civil War. They both have evolved since then on what
they stand for. The Democrats changed
from pro-slavery to an image of representing the common man. The Republicans became perceived as
representing the rich.
In
actuality both parties evolved into a platform of big government and serving
the political elite. The Democratic
Party served the political elite and used special interest groups to divide the
country until the tail was wagging the dog.
The Republicans talked about reducing the size of government and the
national debt, but it was only talk.
Now
that has changed. The people of this
country had enough and expressed that feeling strongly at the polls with a
shocking Presidential election upset. Both
parties were surprised, but the Democrats remain in shock and denial.
The
Democrats are deeply divided much as the Whig party was divided on slavery. Some want a globalist platform, some want socialism,
and some want to serve working America like the voters demanded. Democrats have lost over one thousand state
and federal elected positions in the last nine years. Can the Democratic Party survive?
This
country is moving forward on the issues that elected Trump president in spite
of the Democrats trying to slander him.
If they continue to try to sabotage Trump’s Presidency, they will be
totally left out of any participation in deciding where this country is
going.
That
could be the end of the Democratic Party.
I hope that is not the case. We
need two dominant political parties and I don’t see any other party that is
currently in a position to replace the Democratic Party.
Democrats
have to change just like they changed their position on slavery. They have to oppose big government and put
the welfare of the country before the demands of special interest groups. The have to serve the people and not the
political elite. Things like Super
Delegates in the election have to be eliminated.
I
consider myself to be an independent, but I have not been able to vote for a
Democrat at the state or federal level in over sixteen years. I would love to vote for some Democrats, but
I will only do that when they serve the working people of this great
country.
God
bless the United States of America .
God bless President Trump and guide him to make America great again.
