It Was the Best of Times, It Was the Worst of Times...

These are the opening lines of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities.  The setting for the book is 1775 England.  The book was first published in 1859, but is strangely relevant today.

It was the best of times:
·       We have the strongest economy in history and in the world.
·       More people have jobs, including all minorities, than any time in history
·       We are eliminating unfair and unnecessary government restrictions for business.
·       We have the best trade policies in decades.
·       We are respected by foreign countries more now than any time since WWII.
·       We have a strong military.
·       We are winning the war on terror.
·       Rules of engagement that cost military lives have been changed.
·       We are securing our borders.
·       Taxes have been reduced.
·       Judges have been appointed who enforce the law instead of legislating the law.
·       President Donald Trump

It was the worst of times:
·       Democrats are attempting a coup to overthrow a duly elected President for purely political reasons.
·       The left are trying to overthrow or change the Constitution.
·       We are experiencing the worst abuse of power in Congress in our history.
·       Globalists want open boarders for financial motives including drugs, wars, and money laundering.
·       We have more political division in this country than at any time in history except for during the civil war.
·       We have a media that is selling propaganda and telling lies, and never apologize for their lies.
·       We had the worst incompetence or corruption in the FBI in the history of the country.
·       Corrupt Democratic left

God bless President Trump and guide him to make America great again.

“Trump did not bring division.  Division brought Trump.
If you don’t see that, then you’re part of the problem.”

  1. In early December I responded by to Terry Lee’s email (he was my high school classmate) regarding his December 3 blog post. He did not respond to the email, so I posted the comments on the blog site. Since then I have apparently been removed from email notifications of new blog posts. I just signed on to the site today and will catchup with comments on the last two posts.

    December 10 --- Presidential Candidates

Blog comments are in quotation marks and comments follow:

“Donald Trump will probably be the greatest President in history” --- Really, time will tell.

“President Barack Obama was elected because he was black and could deliver a good speech. He was not qualified, achieved nothing, was a racist, and will go down as one of the worst Presidents in history” --- Really, time will tell.

“Kamala Harris seemed to have potential. She was female and black”

“The only way Trump could ever lose in 2020 is if people get too comfortable and complacent, and don’t vote.”
I noticed "black" was used in two descriptions above. If black voters continue to be suppressed the playing field will not be level.

December 17 --- It Was the Best of Times, It Was the Worst of Times...

Blog comments are in quotation marks and comments follow:

It was the best of times:

“We are eliminating unfair and unnecessary government restrictions for business.”
And the result is pollution of the waterways and the air.

“We have the best trade policies in decades.”
Not sure farmers currently declaring bankruptcy would agree. The numbers are approaching the record levels of the 1980’s. Consumers are paying for the tarrifs.

“We are respected by foreign countries more now than any time since WWII.”
Might want to cite some foreign poll numbers here. May be the most preposterous statement in a long time.

    “We have a strong military.”
Only a Libertarian would brag about this. Is it strong or dishonest after hearing the review of the Afgan War? Did we not learn anything from Viet Nam?

“We are winning the war on terror.”
    In schools?

“Rules of engagement that cost military lives have been changed.”
    Any examples?

    “We are securing our borders.”
    How? Fences? Cages?

    “Taxes have been reduced.”
Yes, at what cost to the deficit? Now at over $1 trillion per year.

It was the worst of times:

“Democrats are attempting a coup to overthrow a duly elected President for purely political reasons.”
Impeachment and possible removal of a President from office is not a coup. If removed, there would be a duly appointed Vice President and complete continuity of government. This what happened following an assassination in 1963 and a resignation in 1972.

“The left are trying to overthrow or change the Constitution.”
How do you overthrow a Constitution? What amendments are being proposed?

“We are experiencing the worst abuse of power in Congress in our history.”
Not sure what abuse is referred that would compare to refusal to consider Judge Garland for the Supreme Court in 2016.

“Globalists want open boarders for financial motives including drugs, wars, and money laundering.”
This statement has no basis in fact and therefore meaningless.

“We have more political division in this country than at any time in history except for during the civil war.”
Might want to take a look at the 1960’s -- 1968 in particular.

“We have a media that is selling propaganda and telling lies, and never apologize for their lies.”
    What media? What lies?

“We had the worst incompetence or corruption in the FBI in the history of the country.”
Might want to look at the FBI’s treatment of M.L. King in the 1960’s.

  2. Agree with Anonymous on all points. There is poison in the KoolAid of both political parties. We currently have the most un-Christian president ever and yet the Republicans on the street are deceived about his moral character. No one should emulate Donald Trump and no one should raise their children to be like him.
